"Three quarters of a century ago there were many rambles that could be taken through the roads, lanes and field paths in the area between Warley in the east, Chigwell Row in the north, Dagenham in the west and Rainham by the river.

"The majority of the walks of 1911 can still be followed, but many of the grand houses and large estates they passed are only memories.  Nevertheless it is fascinating to cover these routes today and identify what remains either in fact or in outline.

"This can be read as an historical record with verbatim descriptions and photographs of a corner of Edwardian Essex.

"We hope that a re-issue of this little book might inspire a few people to walk the past and re-trace some of the Country Rambles that great-grandfather took grandfather on."
