The dynamic growth of Romford in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries has often obscured the fascinating past history of the town and its environs. Its former status as part of the unique Royal Liberty of Havering provided a setting where economic and social developments were often well ahead of the rest of the country.
Romford Heritage opens a door revealing the antiquity of the town's early beginnings and later associations with the famous and the infamous, together with a wealth of historical connections. In spite of the destruction of many historic buildings in recent years, important links with the Romford and England of long ago have been preserved in word and picture. The evidence places Romford at the forefront of events, as one of Britain's significant and historic locations.
Many of the illustrations are from previously unpublished sources, providing a surprising insight into the lives of local people ranging from the distant to the recent past.1
