Romford Now & Then Glimpses of the Past in the Present

Charles William Wright was born in Romford.  He served with the British Army during WWI, mostly in the trenches in France, and was severely injured by faulty guns bought from the Americans.  From then on he was severely crippled and/or in pain which got worse as he got older.  He couldn't work for many years and eventually was able to get a menial job working as a swimming pool attendant at the Romford Baths on Mawney Road.  He died in his mid-forties, basically from World War I injuries.  He lived at 39 Waterloo Road.1
