Joan was born in 1925 on Waterloo Road, and lived on George Street and Knighton Road until she emigrated to the US in 1952.

She is my mother's sister, and sister also to Grace Wright WOODARDS, daughters of Charles William Wright and Grace Maud Ottley Wright.

Joan entered the Land Army at age 17, for two years.  Then she joined the Women's Auxiliary Airforce (WAAF) until the end of World War II.  In 1948 she joined the Metropolitan Police as a Woman Police Constable.  She did her training in London and worked in East Ham and Dagenham.

Joan now lives on Vancouver Island, with her Canadian husband, Robert Nash, who served in the Royal Air Force, also [like my father] in the Bomber Command.
