| A stall in Romford market, probably sometime during the 1960s. The photograph was kindly provided by Sheila West and shows her parents, Kit and Ted EDGHILL. She writes: |
"My parents had a stall in Romford market, situated round about the Kings Head, from 1938 right through to 1977 when it was sold and they retired. My mother had kept the stall going right through the war years (from 1941 through 1945) while my Dad was away in the army, with only a short break when our house in Collier Row was hit by a flying bomb and my Mum thought we should go away for a respite.
I am sure there must be lots of people who still remember my parents from those days. They built up a large number of regular customers over the years and by the time they sold up, they were serving the grand-children of their original customers. Everyone loved my Mum and had a bit of a chat with her - she was always cheerful and charming. When they retired, my Mum and Dad joined me here in Perth, WA. My father died in 1981 and my mother on March 15 this year [2000], aged 97 years.
