From Betty Stephan:
I have been working on my family tree for the past couple of years.
What I know is that my great-grandfather James DAVIES owned a painting and decorating shop in Romford, on George Street (around 1898). He and my great-grandmother Louisa LOVEDAY lived at 96 Park Lane, emigrating to Canada in about 1907. They had four children - Annie, born 1884 (she was a lady's maid for a Mrs. BURROWS); Claude, born 1890; Percy and Kate. I understand that Louisa's father was a policeman in Romford.
Claude was dedicated at St. Edwards Church on December 2, 1888. He took over the painting and decorating, and added plumbing, in 1907. He and my great-aunt Pauline (nee. LEWIS) were married at the Parish Church, Hornchurch, in July 1909. They lived at 96 Park Lane until 1912 when they came to Canada, selling the house to Pauline's brother, Val LEWIS.
Now James had 2 brothers - William and Charles William.
William, his wife Mary Anne and their 7 children emigrated to Canada in 1907. He was also a painter/decorator but as far as I am aware it was my great-great-grandfather James DAVIES that owned a shop on George Street.
Charles William remained in Romford working as a compositor for the Romford Times. He pased away in August, 1920. He and his wife Elizabeth are buried in Romford New Cemetery - Grave 88T. We understand they had two daughters.
Charles William, James and William's father was Charles DAVIES, mother Mary. He was a cooper (managed a barrel company in Romford), and the leader of a band in London. He was born in Wales. Mary I don't really know anything about - was she English or Welsh?
Any assistance you might provide would be extremely helpful. Thank you.
