Romford Now & Then Glimpses of the Past in the Present

My great-grandfather was Christopher George WISEMAN who was born in Romford/Dagenham on 26 January 1854. His father was William Wiseman and his mother Mary Ann HARDY.

Another ancestor, John Wiseman, married Elizabeth SYMES in 1791. They had 10 children, all born at The Rectory, (Old) North Street, Havering-Atte-Bower. Has anyone information about Elizabeth Symes who I understand came from Barbados? He was Vicar of Romford and Havering-Atte Bower.1

1 Dr. John Wiseman was curate of the Chapel of St Edward the Confessor from 1792 to 1810.  He was dismissed after a dispute, and was later curate at Havering (Victoria History of the County of Essex, volume VII, page 84).
