Romford Now & Then Glimpses of the Past in the Present

Since a couple of years I am trying to locate the next of kin of Sgt. Fl. Engr. Richard Venville Thomas Bowerman, 1605444, of the 97th Squadron, RAFVR. Sergeant Bowerman was killed on the 30th January 1944, when his Lancaster exploded over a village close to were I live. His last known address was 428 Upper Brentwood Road, Gidea Park, Romford, Essex. This is where the Burgomaster of the village wrote to give more details of his last resting place. I am doing this for an old friend of mine, who was an eyewitness of the explosion of the plane. He still has in mind the things that happened on that fateful night.

Klaas Visser, The Netherlands, May 2001

Please view Sergeant Bowerman's Record of Commemoration in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Debt of Honour Register.
