My Great Grandfather Thomas Frederick Edwards was a renowned engineer and resided in Romford. He was Chairman of CJ Edwards & Sons, London. I am researching him and the family business and was wondering if anyone had any information on him.
The dates are 1919/1926. My Great Grandfather lived at 7 Eastern Road before his death in 1925, as reported by the local paper. He was a member of the Romford Sociables and involved with the Boy Scout movement. My Great Uncle and one Aunt married into the Sibley family, who I believe had a large cycle business in and around Romford.
The family business was started in about 1792 and existed until the 1960s. The business was located at 32/34 Great Sutton Street London. They were leather curriers and later on engineers in the motor business. Edwards Motor Co were credited with inventing something to do with the modern day fan belt and many other things as well, but alas I have drawn a blank.
I have a copy of an itinerary from 1919 when the company took the staff on the yearly 'beano' (for want of a better word) with a description of times and refreshments, and the fact that the chairman TF Edwards would join them on the train at Romford.
Hopefully the dates are correct enough to find out more.
DF Edwards (reply)
