A view of the playground in the north-eastern corner of Raphael Park (January 2000).

This area was once part of an early-18th-century ornamental pond known as the Spoon pond.¹  The playground is located in the 'bowl' of the spoon, whilst the 'handle' is now occupied by tennis courts.
