I James Ryder Mowatt commonly called and usually styling myself Ryder Mowatt Captain on the half pay of the late Regiment of Kings American Rangers Provincials and Barrack Master of Romford Barracks in the County of Essex do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In the first place I desire to buried with as little pomp and ceremony as possible and at as small expense as practicable In the next place I give and devise my freehold estate at Eastbourne in the County of Sussex which I purchased of the Trustees of the late James Willard Esquire until my son James Ryder Mowatt his heirs and assigns for ever and lastly I give and bequeath all the rest and remainder of the property which I may be possessed of or entitled to at the time of my death whatsoever and whosoever unto my wife Jane Mowatt her heirs administrators and assigns for her sole use and benefit but in the unfortunate and calamitous event of my wife happening to die in my life time which heaven forbid then and in that case I give and bequeath the residue and remainder of my property unto my before mentioned son James Ryder Mowatt his heirs executors administrators and assigns for his sole use and benefit and I constitute and appoint my son James Ryder Mowatt sole Executor of this my will In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of August One thousand eight hundred and twenty two {James Ryder Mowatt} Signed sealed published and declared by the said James Ryder Mowatt as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed ourselves as witnesses {Elizabeth Ward} {Sarah ?Newell}{ ?R. ?Titley}

Proved at London 8 February 1823 before the worshipful John Haggard Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oath of James Ryder Mowatt the son the sole Executor to whom Admon was granted having been first sworn duly to Admin.
