A new Romford hospital (to replace Oldchurch) is currently under construction on Oldchurch Park.

Final planning approval for the hospital was secured on 23 April 2002. It will be developed and operated in partnership with Catalyst Healthcare under the Private Finance Initiative, and is expected to open in 2005.1

The hospital will cover 34.5 acres, with 5.4 acres retained for landscaping and open space.  It will provide 859 beds and there will be 1,151 parking spaces. The estimated cost is £165 million.2
