The old library, at the top of Market Place.1

This was the first full-time branch of the Essex county library.  It was opened in 1930 in the former St. Edward's charity school.² 

The Branch (later Borough) Librarian, Gordon Humby, was instrumental in founding the Romford and District Historical Society here in 1956.¹
