Balgores House, at the northern end of Balgores Lane, seen here in about 1917.1  At this time it was being used to provide additional accomodation for the Artists Rifles, having been offered rent free by Sir Herbert Raphael.2  Previously it had been the home of Mr. William Bose, secretary of Gidea Park Golf Club.3
