| This photograph shows the VE Day street party in Birch Road in May 1945. It was kindly provided by William (Bill) DALE, who writes: |
I can only remember a couple of faces after all these years. The two I remember are George & Joan Rose. George used to play drums and I played banjo. We used to go in for all the talent shows at the Saturday morning matinees at the ABC cinema, but because we used to win every week they made us the official band. It was a funny sight to see us carting all George's drum set on the old 252 bus.
In April 2000 there was a special reunion for former residents of Birch Road, organised following the publication in the Romford Recorder of another photograph of the same event.1
If you or your relatives appear in this photograph, or lived in Birch Road at the time, why not get in touch?
