The remains of the old telephone exchange, Exchange Street, in January 20001.  It is being demolished as part of the redevelopment of the brewery site.  The newer exchange, which was also to be demolished, can be seen to its left.

Amazingly, this is not the first time that the exchange has been demolished: sixty years earlier it had been badly damaged by a parachute mine.   This time, however, it will not be rebuilt.
