| Looking across Gallows Corner from the west, 1926.1 |
The car has come out of Romford along Main Road. To its right is the newly opened Southend Arterial Road, whilst straight ahead is the Colchester Road.2 At the corner of these two roads stands an AA box, whilst in the middle of the junction an AA patrolman (or policeman?) directs the traffic.
There is a companion photo, probably taken at the same time, of a car speeding along the arterial road.

2 By comparision with the photograph in the centre pages of the
Romford Record No. 25 (1993).
