Romford Now & Then   Glimpses of the Past in the Present

 
This photograph shows the Romford Boys Brigade (or possibly Sea Cadets) Band marching through Market Place in the early 1950s.1  It was taken from the south-western corner of the market, at its junction with South Street.

In the foreground you can see the support for the traffic lights that were still needed in the days before the market was closed to through traffic.2

On the northern side of the market you can see the entrance to St. Edward's churchyard and Church House, whilst futher up a number 86 bus passes in front of the Romford Shopping Hall.

At the top end of the market you can see the Laurie Hall, which at this time housed the Vogue cinema.
