Looking down the south side of the market (the left side of the photo) you can see signs for Harry's Cycles and H. H. Green & Co Estate Agents. This area at the top end of the market was known as the Pavement.2 Notice the railings which still stood at this time.
To the right of the photo you can see part of the entrance to the Laurie Hall, which stood at the head of the market.
Looking beyond the Laurie Hall, along the north side of the market, you can see the Pig in Pound public house (behind the bus), the Romford Shopping Hall, and the spire and roof of St. Edwards's church.
