Buildings include The Globe Commercial Coffee & Dining Rooms, and, a little further up, with the Union Flag flying outside, the headquarters of A & B companies of the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Essex Regiment.²

At the head of the market the Laurie Cinema is showing the comedy Mrs Plum's Pudding and the drama Mistress Nell (both released in 1915).³
