| The view down Seymer Road towards North Street, July 1947.1 |
The allotments on the left side of the road would later become the site of the North Street (NS) bus garage. This photograph - taken from roughly opposite the now entance - was commissioned by the then London Passenger Transport Board when they were undertaking a survey for a possible purchase of the site. The LPTB, when involved in anything that may cause traffic conflict or congestion, used to take a series of such pictures of an 'average' day, no doubt to support their planning application.2
The shops in the backgound are (from left to right) Parkside Domestic Stores, Robertson (chemists) and Hamilton (confectioner and tobacconist). A Guy bus can be seen proceeding up North Street towards the Parkside.2
You can view another photograph from the series, this time taken from the Park Drive end of the site.
