Part of the Congregational church tower is visible on the right behind the wall and tree.
The road off to the right led to the Carlise Institute behind the church. A shopping arcade was later built on the site of the two large private houses on the far side of this road. The road is now called Arcade Place.
Beyond the houses the stepped gables of the police station can be seen.1
