On the left  corner is the National Provincial Bank.  Beyond, the sign for the Dolcis shoe store can be seen on the roof of the Quadrant Arcade.

On the right corner is John Collier, gentlemen's outfitters.  Next to this comes Paige, and then the Westminster Bank.

The bus coming up South Street is a 175, which on weekdays went from Poplar via East Ham, Barking by-pass, Dagenham, Becontree Heath, Romford, Collier Row, Stapleford Abbots to Ongar.1
