Looking north up South Street from the corner of Western Road sometime in the 1950s.1

On the left is the original Romford shopping arcade; the shop at the end is the "EASIEPHIT" shoe shop. On the opposite corner of the side road (Arcade Place) stands the Congregational church.  A little further up is the old post office, and opposite, the Plaza cinema.
