Romford Now & Then Glimpses of the Past in the Present

Gerry Knight writes of his time at Pettits school:

I was in the school swimming team, which was made up of myself, Leon Pepall, Colin Estlea, Eric Tetchiner, Donald Martin and Ralph Smith.

I was also captain of the school cricket team, which was made up of myself, Gerald Bradbury, Stanley Kent, Peter Tyrell, and others who have slipped from my memory for the present.

I was head school prefect 1950-51, and also House captain for Reed whose colour was green.

My teachers were Mr Helmore, (dear old) Wally Benson, Mr Davies, Wally again, and Mr Thomas, whose wife was also a teacher. Mr Skinner was the headmaster during my time.

Those who went to Pettits may remember the metal structure over the centre piece of the school. This I drew up in the metalwork class and the whole class had to have a hand in making it. (I think a Mr Morgan was the metalwork teacher.) It was made to commemorate the 1951 exhibition at Battersea Gardens.
