| The quadrangle, St. Edward's school, Mercury Gardens, in about 1958.1 |
On wall on the far side of the quadrangle, to the right of the central window, you can just make out a statuette. This is of a boy in 18th century charity school dress, and is one of a pair - the other, a girl, presumably being hidden behind the post to the left of the window. Beneath the window is what appears to be a commemoration stone - possibly that for the opening of the buildings in 1935.
The original photograph is mounted on a card signed by Dr Frederick Davis, headmaster from 1946 to 1958, and is believed to have been to commemorate his retirement.
