W. Harris & Co. were hay & straw merchants with premises at 23 Victoria Road, Romford.3  It is quite likely that they were customers of C H Hunt, Shoeing Smith, and it is possible that the photograph may have been taken in the latter's yard.4

2 The sign on the side of the cart is partially obscured, but what can be seen reads "[...]& CO. ROMFORD  [...]AGE MERCHANTS  V[...]A RD ROMFORD".  A telephone number - "Tel[...]38" - is painted above the lamp at the front of the cart.  This partial information is sufficient to identify W. Harris & Co. as the owners.
