| The inaugural flight of the Hillmans Airways service between Romford and Paris. The photograph shows Edward Hillman and the pilot Mr H Wood.1 |
The flight took place on 1st April 1933 from Maylands Aerodrome (now a golf club). A twice-daily service was to be run in both directions.1
The Maylands site was not really suitable for such flights, however, and in mid-1934 a move was made to Abridge, north of Romford, where there were better facilities.2
1 Photograph from my own collection. Information from a note attached to the back of the photograph.
