The station buildings and footbridge of the former London, Tilbury & Southend Railway (later London, Midland & Scottish Railway), early 1977.1

When first built, the footbridge connected the LTS platform with the Great Eastern Railway station on the other side of South Street, although it was often closed during the day, so that passengers coming from London and wishing to change had to walk down the tree-covered slope opposite the Star Inn, under the bridge, across the road, and so into the LTS station.2
